Fun Birthday Card using the Shadowing Technique

Today I made this great birthday card using the Shadowing Technique.  It really makes the Happy Birthday sentiment POP!!!

I made this card for my future Son-In-Law.  Its a good card for a guy.  I used the Happy Birthday Thinlits and cut the sentiment twice and then offset them a little to give the shadow affect.  The splatter stamp from the Timeless Textures stamp set gives the card a fun look.

Checkout the video below to see how I made it.

Life is a beautiful thing, and oh so peaceful!

Don't you just love the color combination on these two cards?

The blue background looks like a stormy day.  The card base is Night of Navy and the sentiment was heat embossed with White Embossing Powder.

Life Is Beautiful Blue.jpg

The green background is very peaceful.  The card base is Basic Black and the sentiment was stamped in Archival Basic Black Archival Ink and then Clear Embossing Powder.

I made eight of these cards (four of each color) for a swap that I'm in with my team.  They were so easy to make.

Check out the video below to see how I made them.

Here are the dimensions for the cards:
- Card Base (Night of Navy or Basic Black) - 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 - scored at 4 1/4
- Layer of Lemon Lime Twist - 5 1/4 x 4
- Layer of Naturally Eclectic DSP - 5 x 3 3/4
- Scraps of Lemon Lime Twist for Adirondack chairs

Here is how I cut the DSP:
- Cut 3 strips of 3 3/4 (cut so blue is on top and green on bottom)

- Cut strip in half and then cut off blue end or green end (depending on which piece so you are left with a 5 x 3 3/4 layer.  You want to keep as much white as possible.

I completed all eight swap cards.  I hope everyone likes them when they receive them.  I'm looking forward to receiving mine  :)

- Fold on score lines
- Base card has DSP pieces at 4x4, and two at 4 x 1 3/4

Thinking Of You Card

Today I want to share a sweet card using the Thoughts and Prayers stamp set.  This set has so many nice sentiments to show you're thinking of someone who is going through a hard time.

Below are the measurements along with pictures to help you to follow along.

Card Base:
-  Early Espresso - 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, scored at 4 1/4
-  Designer Series Paper - 5 1/4 x 4
-  Early Espresso - 3 3/4 x 3
-  Whisper White - 4 x 3 1/4
-  Scraps of Early Espresso and Whisper White for circles
-  Whisper White - 5 1/4 x 4 for inside

I used the Thoughts and Prayers Stamp Set

  • Adhere DSP to Card base using Snail Adhesive

  • Stamp tree image on Whisper White cardstock and adhere to Early Espresso layer.

  • Cut scalloped circle in Early Espresso using the Big Shot and the Layering Circles Framelits Die.

  • Cut stitched circle in Whisper White using the Stitched Shapes Framelits Die.

  • Stamp sentiment on the Whisper White stitched circle in Early Espresso ink using the Masking Technique.

To use the Masking Technique, cover the part of the stamp that you don't want with a post-it note.  For this card, the stamp's sentiment is "Thinking of You....Please know that I care" but I only wanted the "Thinking of You" part.

I covered the "Please know that I care." with the post-it note and inked up the stamp.  Then I removed the post-it note before stamping on the stitched circle.

  • Adhere the stitched circle to the scalloped circle using Snail Adhesive.

  • Adhere the circle to the card using Stampin Dimensionals.

  • For the inside, stamp the floral image and sentiment on the 5 1/4 x 4 piece of Whisper White cardstock.  I stamped only part of the image on the cardstock, using a piece of scrap behind the cardstock for the excess.

  •  Adhere to inside using Snail Adhesive.
